LAPG is a membership body representing legal aid practitioners in England and Wales and the clients they serve. We believe that access to justice is a fundamental right and as such we campaign for a fair, comprehensive and accessible legal aid scheme.

We work closely with other representative bodies to raise awareness about the importance of legal aid and the work of legal aid practitioners. We raise concerns with government about policy and operational issues in an effort to improve the current system which excludes some of the most vulnerable members of society. Download our 2017 Manifesto for Legal Aid for a full outline of what we believe government must do to fix our broken system.

We also support Members to understand the complexities of the system and improve their sustainability. We provide training, assist with operational issues, provide resources and give practitioners a collective voice with government.

Become a member of LAPG

LAPG represents practitioners across England and Wales. We campaign on behalf of our membership and have ongoing dialogue with the LAA and MOJ to raise issues of concern to legal aid practitioners. Members of LAPG receive regular updates about developments in the operation of the legal aid scheme and policy issues. Members have access to discounted training courses and events such as our well-regarded annual conference.

The Legal Aid Conference & Dinner

The 2019 LAPG Conference took place in Birmingham on 4 October 2019, with a pre-conference dinner for conference delegates and non-delegates on 3 October 2019. Many thanks to Conference Aston for hosting the dinner, our AGM and the conference – the facilities really were top notch.

We would like to thank this year’s Conference sponsors – John M Hayes, Tikit and DNA Legal, LAG – and Dinner and Conference sponsors Accesspoint. It was a cracking event! We have now announced the finalists for the 2020 Legal Aid Lawyer of the Year awards, which will once again celebrate the incredible work of legal lawyers across the country.

This year we have introduced three new award categories – Legal Aid Team, Mental Capacity Law and Regional Legal Aid Firm/Not-for-Profit Agency.
